A cruise tour in Tanjung Puting National Park offers an unforgettable adventure into one of the most biodiverse and pristine rainforests in Southeast Asia. Located in Borneo, Indonesia, Tanjung Puting is a UNESCO World Heritage-listed site famous for its orangutan conservation efforts, diverse wildlife, and lush landscapes. On the cruise tour, you'll sail along the Sekonyer River, which meanders through the heart of the park. The journey provides the perfect opportunity to witness rare and endangered species in their natural habitat, especially the orangutans. You'll have the chance to visit the famous Camp Leakey, a research center and orangutan rehabilitation facility, where you can observe these incredible primates up close. The park is also home to proboscis monkeys, macaques, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species. The cruise itself is on traditional wooden boats called klotok, which are comfortable and equipped with all the necessary amenities. While on board, you’ll be surrounded by the sounds of the forest, and expert guides will provide insights into the flora, fauna, and conservation efforts that make Tanjung Puting such a unique destination. Aside from wildlife spotting, the tour offers opportunities to explore the dense mangroves, take nature walks, and enjoy the tranquility of the river. Whether you’re an avid nature lover or just seeking a peaceful getaway, a cruise through Tanjung Puting National Park is an immersive experience into one of the world’s most incredible ecosystems.
DAY 1. PANGKALAN BUN – KUMAI – TANJUNG HARAPAN
Upon arrival at Pangkalan Bun Airport you will be picked up by our local staff and transfer you to the port of Kumai to board on the Wow Borneo boat. Each boat is a renovated traditional Klotok, or wooden river boat, measuring about 18m by 3m, with a comfortable upper deck where you can view the rain forest as it glides by. The boats have 3 air conditioned ensuite cabins below deck. Your cabin is fully equipped with sheets, towels and toiletries. Delicious Asian fusion meals are eaten around the dining table on deck. The boat crew includes the boatman, a cook, assistant cook, and English speaking guide. En route to the Tanjung Puting National Park, we stop first at Tanjung Harapan, a rehabilitation center for orangutans. After a short walk in the forest to the platforms, we witness feeding time at 15.00. Later, in the peaceful late afternoon, we will slowly explore the quiet river to observe the proboscis monkeys and possibly fireflies in season among the nipa palms along the riverside. Dinner and overnight on the boat.
